Siteki, Eswatini – 12 June 2025 In a bold move to reposition itself as a progressive, investment-friendly, and inclusive town, the Siteki Town Council officially launched its Rebranding and Destination Marketing Strategy during a well-attended press conference held at the Council Boardroom on Thursday morning.

Presided over by His Lordship Mayor Bongsipho Dlamini and Chief Executive Officer Ms. Sithembile Simelane, the event brought together members of the media, councillors, business leaders, youth representatives, and other key stakeholders.

“This is not just a branding exercise,” said CEO Simelane. “It’s about shaping a new identity, narrative, and future for Siteki — with its people at the center.”

The rebranding initiative follows the recent adoption of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) 2024–2029, which outlines key focus areas including:

  • Resource mobilisation and financial sustainability
  • Local economic development
  • Infrastructure and environmental management
  • Crime prevention and public safety
  • Service delivery and institutional capacity building

Despite being one of Eswatini’s oldest towns — perched atop the scenic Lubombo Plateau and rich in history, culture, and trade potential — Siteki has long suffered from underexposure, outdated signage, and a lack of visual identity. The new strategy aims to change that.

What the Strategy Seeks to Achieve

The Council’s rebranding goals include:

  • Improving the town’s physical look and feel (clean signage, public spaces, infrastructure)
  • Developing a cohesive brand identity, including a new logo, colours, and slogan
  • Promoting Siteki as a tourist destination, business hub, and investment zone
  • Driving community pride, job creation, and new economic opportunities

Importantly, the Council announced that the logo and visual identity will not be imposed from the top. Instead, residents, businesses, youth, and visitors are being invited to co-create the town’s new image by participating in online surveys, community polls, and consultations over the coming weeks.

Five Pillars of the Rebranding Strategy

The rebranding roadmap will be implemented across five core areas:

  1. Brand Identity Development – inclusive logo, messaging, and visual language
  2. Tourism Positioning – promoting Siteki as a stopover and eco-tourism hub
  3. Real Estate Promotion – attracting investment in housing and commercial development
  4. Business Growth – enabling SMEs, informal traders, and retail expansion
  5. Stakeholder Engagement – ensuring ongoing consultation with citizens, especially the youth and business sector

The Council has appointed Stratcom (Pty) Ltd, a local communications agency, to lead the facilitation process, including public campaigns, media content, and stakeholder outreach.

“Branding is not just visual — it’s about experience, perception, and pride,” the CEO emphasized. “When people walk through Siteki, they should feel a sense of identity, safety, and possibility. When they hear Siteki, they should say: this is where opportunity lives.
