Siteki Town Mayor – Councillor Buyisakuthula Matsenjwa.

SITEKI – Councillor Buyisakuthula Matsenjwa today has officially been elected Mayor of Siteki Town Council for the 2026/2027 term following the Council’s inaugural meeting held at the Council Boardroom. The meeting marked the beginning of a new leadership phase for the town, with Councillors electing office bearers who will steer the municipality’s governance and development agenda.

In his acceptance speech, Mayor Matsenjwa expressed gratitude to the outgoing Mayor and previous Council leadership for their dedication and commitment in driving the growth and development of Siteki Town to its current state. He acknowledged the progress achieved under the previous administration and pledged to build on that foundation during his tenure.

The newly elected Mayor emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and service to the nation, urging Council to align its work with His Majesty King Mswati III’s command of “Nkwe!”. He called on Councillors, management, and all stakeholders to work collectively towards strengthening local governance and improving the quality of life for residents.

Mayor Matsenjwa further stressed that his administration would place strong emphasis on effective service delivery and operational efficiency across all Council departments. He highlighted youth unemployment as one of the critical challenges facing Siteki Town and stated that Council must prioritize initiatives contained in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) 2024–2029 to create opportunities and alleviate unemployment among young people.

He also outlined several key operational areas that Council would focus on during his term, including infrastructure maintenance, improved waste management, efficient response to community concerns, financial accountability, and enhanced public service delivery. The Mayor noted that these priorities would be central in ensuring that residents receive reliable and efficient municipal services.

Meanwhile, Councillor Samuel Tsabedze of Ward 5 reclaimed the position of Deputy Mayor after being elected unopposed. In other elections, Councillor Simphiwe Dlamini of Ward 3 was elected Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Committee following the withdrawal of the former Chairperson, Councillor Musa Simango, who declined nomination for the position.

The position of Vice Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Committee was also uncontested, with Councillor Dudu Mthethwa securing the role after Councillors Simphiwe Dlamini and Leslee Way declined nomination. Councillor Thulani Dlamini of Ward 5 was elected as a member of the Finance and Administration Committee, receiving 8 votes in a demonstration of Council’s confidence in his leadership and contribution to the committee.

Delivering remarks during the inaugural meeting, Ministry Representative Mr. Gordon Mbuli congratulated the newly elected Chairperson and Council leadership while also expressing appreciation to the outgoing Chairperson for the work and commitment demonstrated throughout the past year. He highlighted the significant role that town councils play in contributing towards the country’s national strategic development plans and emphasized the importance of local government structures in driving national development.

Mr. Mbuli encouraged the Council to uphold integrity, professionalism, and accountability throughout the year. He further commended Siteki Town Council for maintaining a positive reputation over the years, noting that it remains one of the few councils that has not been associated with scandals. He urged Councillors and management to preserve this image by continuing to work transparently and responsibly.

He further called on Councillors to fully support the new Chairperson and leadership to ensure the successful implementation of the IDP 2024–2029 for meaningful development to be realized in Siteki Town. Mr. Mbuli also reminded Council not to lose sight of its core mandate and stressed the importance of allowing the various Council structures and committees to operate effectively within their respective responsibilities.).
